OPA-LOCKA, FLA. (WSVN) - An apartment building is now home to a beautiful mural featuring a hometown hero.

The artwork features Mary Alice Brown, who many refer to as the matriarch of Opa-Locka.

She is a longtime community activist who worked to create better housing in the city.

The complex was recently renamed Mary Alice Brown Apartments and is a 216-unit affordable housing community that serves a population of over 700 people.
