  • What is the Tech Futures Initiative?
    The Tech Futures Initiative is a 12-week intensive information technology training initiative that will prepare students for a future in the technology industry.
  • What is the deadline to apply?
    The deadline to apply for the CompTIA A+ course is July 30, 2021 at 11:59pm, and August 2, 2021 at 11:59pm for the Web Development Fundamentals course. After these dates and times, the registration form will be closed.
  • How much does this Tech Futures Initiative cost?
    The Tech Futures Initiative is free to participate.
  • Who can participate?
    Those interested in participating must meet the following basic requirements - • Miami-Dade County resident • 18 - 35 years old • High school diploma/ GED • Ability to fully complete the 12-week program • Reliable access to a computer and internet during class times
  • How will participants be selected?
    Each cohort will be comprised of 25 students who are interested in accessing higher paying jobs through professional development. Students will be selected based on their ability to commit to the program, personal desire to improve their circumstances and proven ability to overcome obstacles.
  • When and where will classes take place?
    Due to COVID-19, classes will be held virtually via Zoom, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The CompTIA A+ course will meet between August 2 and October 21, and the Web Development Fundamentals course will meet between August 9 and October 28.
  • What kind of things will I learn?
    Students will learn life, job readiness and tech skills to prepare them for an entry-level information technology job. Tech skills include - • Identifying, using and connecting hardware components and devices • Installing and supporting Window OS • Troubleshooting PC and mobile device issues • Troubleshooting device and network issues • Identifying and protecting against securing vulnerabilities • Identifying types of networks and connections •Installing and configuring laptops and other mobile devices
  • Is a job guaranteed?
    While jobs are not guaranteed at the end of the program, students will learn valuable skills to prepare them for an IT job. Throughout the program, students will work closely with CareerSource to identify and apply for relevant job opportunities.
  • What language will the classes be taught in?
    All classes and exams will be in English.
  • Why should I join this program?
    The IT industry is rapidly growing, particularly in South Florida.
