2016 Wertheim Conference returns to Opa-locka

On September 20, 2016, FIU presented the Wertheim Conference, "How to Become a Healthcare Professional" at Sherbondy Village, 215 N. Perviz Avenue, Opa-locka 33054. OLCDC partnered with FIU and hosted the Conference's THRIVE interactive session on community health at the ARC.


OLCDC & partners install exercise machines at Magnolia North Park

On September 1, 2016, OLCDC funders and partners participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for 5 new outdoor exercise machines installed at Magnolia North Park. Funders include the Miami Foundation, the Health Foundation, Greenfields Outdoor Exercise Equipment, and Baptist Health.


OLCDC and partners' CodeMasters showcase summer robotics and game design projects

On July 27, students attending summer CodeMasters camps in Robotics at Carrie Meek/Westview K-8 Center and Game Design at Central High School presented robots they built and programmed and video games they designed during their six-week programs.

In addition to exploring STEM in action though robotics and game design, students spent the summer working daily with certified math teachers, preparing to transition to middle and high school, planning for higher education and touring college campuses, receiving career planning advice from STEM professionals, and visiting cultural and science venues on weekly field trips.

OLCDC and partners celebrate 2016 Keeping Our Promise graduates

On June 2, OLCDC and partners hosted a graduation ceremony for students attending Dr. Robert B. Ingram Elementary, Nathan B. Young Elementary, and Golden Glades Elementary who participated during the 2015-2016 school year in the Children's Trust-funded Keeping Our Promise Program, which provides behavioral health, physical health, and education services through care coordination to students displaying at-risk behaviors.

OLCDC hosts 3rd Annual Health Matters: Health and Resource Fair


On Saturday, March 12, OLCDC presented the third annual Health Matters: Health and Resource Fair, which featured vendors offering health services and community resources; cooking demonstrations; food giveaways; fitness activities; and OLCDC's first 1-mile Walk for a Purpose to raise awareness about cancer.
